Text
KJV Below (Link to NIV)
7 For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:
8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
Comment
James makes a very apt comparison. We’ve been able to tame all sorts of things, but we are simply unable to tame our speech. It is interesting how strong the language is. It’s an ‘unruly evil’ and ‘full of deadly poison.’ In the same way that a small drop of venom from a cobra’s mouth can kill a human, so a small word can kill a relationship, destroy a reputation, and harm us in countless other ways.
Question
Have you ever said something you’ve regretted? How hard is it to take back those words? While it can be difficult to deal with the aftermath of our speech, thank God we have a Savior who covers over all of those wrongs.
